The Heroine’s Journey of Erika Z Figabomba in Amsterdam

What is the best thing that I love about my work? To create images observing the people I work with, their stories and personalities and to evoke emotions through them (photographs). Like a journey of feelings and perceptions.

What is my idea of perfect happiness? Being in perfect balance and harmony with my own dimension. Happiness always begins within ourselves.

What is my greatest fear? Not having enough time to explore deeply all the things I am fascinated by in life. I am greedy to learn.

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? None.

What is my greatest extravagance? To be controversial and to dare to be who I am. Something I carry along since I was very young.

On what occasion would I lie? It would probably be if i am running late to an appointment.

What is the influence of role models, in my work and in my life? Every woman who has made the revolution(-s), who has stood up and fought for her rights to be independent and free is a source of inspiration to me. And most likely all the important females present in my life.

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? Sudden deadline changes. Superfluous complaining.

When and where was I the happiest, in my work? A countless amount of times and places. Working while traveling is a source of inspiration and creativity. To merge into different cultures and to translate that into photographs.

If I could, what would I change about myself? I would certainly plan and organize my time better.

What is my greatest achievement in work? Being self-taught and feeling satisfied at doing what I heart the most.

What is my most inspirational location, in my city? The countryside where I got raised and my grandmother kitchen. I have learned there how to cook and how to live happy with very little.

What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city? A local seafood market where one can eat fresh caught raw fish. On the contrary my favorite divey bar (in Venice) does not longer exist. That was my beloved spot when I bailed high school back in the days.

Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime? Definitely all the people who I encountered while travelling, who faithfully follow my work and call my name when they meet me on the street. Alessandra is currently my partner in crime, we are making a book together.

Whom would I like to work with in the future? With kids in a less developed country. On a film production and with an international Museum which I haven’ t worked (exposed) with yet.

What project, in the nearby future, am I looking forward to work on? I am currently working on making a book about empowering women. A photographic collection of beautiful, artistic, tasteful – but nonetheless utterly sexy- nudes portraying women who are a step ahead of our typical idea of ‘model’. It has been a long journey and I look forward to sharing it with you all. #figabombananadventure if you are interested on following its development.
