The Heroine’s Journey of Rafaelle Cohen

What is the best thing that I love about my work? Inspiring people by expressing myself.
What is my idea of perfect happiness? To me, perfect happiness is reaching the state of confidence in one’s self and in the universe, that all is perfect in every moment. It is also doing a job you love, achieving goals you set for yourself, in a place you love, with people you love surrounding you, but I think the first one leads to the other.
What is my greatest fear? To be on the day of my death and regret not having tried everything I could to make my dreams come true
What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? My constant doubts that lead me to want to control things too much sometimes, but I’m learning !
What is my greatest extravagance? Probably clothes…but everything really, I don’t like to count.
On what occasion would I lie? When it won’t help anyone to tell the truth.
What is the influence of role models, in my work and in my life? I never found a true role model, but many people inspire me in different ways. Some actors have set for me a technique goal that I would like to obtain, some spiritual leaders help me understand what kind of serenity I want to attain.
What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? Auditioning. Definitely auditioning.
When and where was I the happiest, in my work? I think it must have been every time I finished the Sister Mary Robert solo in Sister Act at the Theatre Mogador in Paris, with the incredible wave of applause that followed. That and my very first premiere as a principal role on stage, at the Casino de Paris, when I was still an engineer.
If I could, what would I change about myself? Oh there are tons of imperfections in me; I think I’d rather accept them all. I would change my constant doubting about myself.
What is my greatest achievement in work? Being chosen by Roman Polanski to be the leading lady in a Musical directed by him at the Theatre Mogador in Paris, and shooting Beauty and the Beast in London the same year, as a Village lass in love with Gaston (my second favorite part after Belle).
What is my most inspirational location, in my city? Any street around Covent Garden, but lately I’ve found a lot of inspiration in Battersea Park.
What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city? With someone I love, I don’t really care where
Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime? I have a few very special people in my life who support me, and I support them. They’re like my angels.
Whom would I like to work with in the future? Tom Ford, Roman Polanski but in a film this time, Melanie Laurent as a director, Tom Hooper, Steven Spielberg, Luc Besson, Tim Burton,…the list is very long
What project, in the nearby future, am I looking forward to work on? A feature film about someone who changes completely their very structured life in order to become free.
