The Heroine’s Journey of FRANCESCA GAROFALO

What is the best thing that I love about my work? I am a set-designer. It’s the tradition of my family. I also realize bags using old vintage cameras cases. The thing I love about my work is give life to forgotten objects, invent new ones, create with my hands what I need for a show.

What is my idea of perfect happiness? My idea of happiness is serenity. Building a working path and see my family as satisfied with their lives.

What is my greatest fear? Not being able to be successful, with myself, not to others. Success for me is do everything I dream in the time it was given to us.

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? Sometimes I want to do too much things, be too many people, make everyone happy. This is not possible and the risk is not being able to concentrate on what is most important.

Which persons living in my profession do i most admire? My parents. My father is a set-designer and my mother a theater director and a painter. They are my heroes, my teachers, my inspiration.

What is my greatest extravagance? My fantasy, my flight with my mind, my ability to believe everything possible. This is a sign of extravagance for all people today. I’m proud of it instead.

On what occasion would I lie? Just to protect someone, even I know it’s wrong. The lies are stressful, unnecessary, counter-productive. I’m not interested in.

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? I hate that in my country art and culture are seen only as a mechanism to make money and who have studied art can’t have a solid future here.

When and where was I the happiest in my work? Every time the curtain is open and people applaud what I’ve done. Every time I start a project I believe in and I see my name written in it. Every time someone is happy getting something that I have made with my own hands.

If I could, what would I change about myself? I would be more courageous and risk more. Even if everyone tells me that already I am.

What is my greatest achievement in work? My greatest achievement has been that people I have worked with have appreciated me and they told other people that.

Where would I most like to live? In a country where I can learn even more and grow personally and professionally until the last day of my life.

What is my most treasured possession? My family and anyone who stands by me despite my weaknesses. My imagination. They are the most valuable treasure that every individual has in life.

What is my most marked characteristic? Have the appearance of a person who dreams all the time and at the same time seem very determined.

What is my most inspirational locations in my city? I have two cities: Naples, where I was born and I formed myself and Rome, where I work now. In Naples there is a place called La Gaiola. It’s a magic place. The sea, an abandoned island, ancient stories. A unique place that brings peace and inspiration.

What is my favorite place to eat and drink in my city? I live in Rome and my favorite place is the Vivi Bistrot in Villa Pamphili. For me is the most beautiful green park of Rome to sit and eat while watching the sunset coloring the meadows.

What books influenced my life and how? The book that influenced me is One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez that taught me life goes on no matter what happens. And, although it may seem stupid and childish… Harry Potter. J.K Rowling has shown me with his talent and perseverance that everything can happen.

Who are my favorite writers? Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde and J. K. Rowling among contemporaries.

You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day? Jazz music. I love it. Jazz relaxes me and gives me peace. And then all the songs of my life that can make me relive my best memories.

Who are my heroes and heroines in real life? My parents and my brother Matteo. They have talent and are humanly beautiful people and they taught me everything.

Which movie would i recommend to see once in a lifetime? Big Fish, the fantasy. One day, the love. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, the life.

What role plays art in my life and work? The art, ideas, creativity are the driving force of my life. What makes me wake up and get up every day.

Who is my greatest fans, sponsors, partners in crime? My family and my boyfriend are those who support me and encourage me every day despite the difficulties and refuses that in life we have to face.

Whom would I like to work with in 2017? For four years I’m working with my childhood friend to a movie project in which we believe madly. In 2017 I would like to work with her realizing our dream.

Which people in my profession would i love to meet in 2017? I dream to know the set-designers of the Cirque du Soleil and those who create their fantasy worlds.

What project, in 2017, I am looking forward to work on? The film that I’m already working titled Querido fidel. A movie set in my Naples, but that history has close ties with the Cuban revolution.

Where can you see me or my work in 2017? I don’t love social networks and I have always worked making me know my person. Some of my scenes can be found on the internet looking for my name, but I have 34 years old and I hope that the major projects I should still undertake it. My bags instead can be found on facebook. https://www.facebook.com/campochette/

What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me? If the passion ends the habit is born. The death of the ideas, of the creativity, the desire to do adventures, the desire to live.

Which creative heroines Should invite Peter to Tell Their Story? Peter should know my mother, Karima Angiolina Campanelli. The strongest woman I know. An inexhaustible source of creativity. A volcano.
