What is the best thing that I love about my work?

The best thing that I love is that I can be innovative, there are no limitations, no boundations and I make the rules. The society has made certain rules about fashion, about art and when things are not done their way they criticize it, it’s hard for them to accept it. When I do my work I do not have to worry about those rules I make what I like and I have the freedom to innovate.

What is my idea of perfect happiness?

My idea of perfect happiness is the freedom to do what you like, where you want to be, what you want to wear and have the support of your loved ones.

What is my greatest fear?

I don’t fear anything; I’m good with taking up challenges in my life. I believe whatever we face in life is a way of making us stronger for what we face in future. We keep getting stronger, experiencing new things – That’s life!

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself?

I think I trust everyone too quickly. It’s hard for me to see the bad in people the moment I meet them. I’m not judgemental and I feel people in today’s world should be a little prudent about people who may take advantage of you.

Which living persons in my profession do i most admire?

Ahh this is kind of obvious but John Galliano is one of the most talented, innovative, artistic fashion designer in the industry. I also like Mr Yohji Yamamoto’s designs.

On what occasion would I lie?

If it’s for the betterment of someone, probably not to hurt anyone’s sentiments I might lie.

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work?

Dependency! I hate it when I have to depend on someone to get my work done. Thus I try to learn whatever I can, so when I need the work to be done on an urgent basis I can just do it myself instead of waiting for others to do it for me.

When and where was I the happiest, in my work?

The happiest moment was when I was awarded for my debut collection in Paris. It meant a lot to me because it was my first ever collection which was rejected in India and I sent it to some fashion weeks in Paris and New York where I got selected. They invited me to showcase my collection and I was appreciated for my unique designs. I made a lot of friends who are still willing to help me out whenever I need it.

If I could, what would I change about myself?

I don’t think I’d want to change anything about myself. If I did not continue to be who I am then I wouldn’t be where I am today.

What is my greatest achievement in work?

Again that would be the first time I presented my collection in Paris and was awarded for it. It was the beginning of my journey.

Where would I most like to live?

Paris I think, it is a beautiful city with beautiful people. Also its best for my work and it’s a dream to present my collection at the official Paris Fashion Week.

What is my most treasured possession?

My self-respect! If you don’t respect yourself, nobody will. The world sees where we put ourselves and how we treat ourselves.

What is my most marked characteristic?

Kindness ! I am a very sensitive person; I cannot see anybody in pain. I’m always willing to help people even if I’m not financially strong; I just do whatever is in my hand to lessen the burden on someone’s shoulder. I can go out of the way to help anyone mentally or emotionally.

What is my most inspirational location, in my city?

I don’t think there’s anything in my city that has inspired me. It’s a commercial city with industries and MNCs people are always in a hurry to get to work. But there are other cities in my country which have artistic and traditional values that inspire me in my work like Jaipur, Khajuraho, Tricandrum, Madurai.

What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city?

Home! Haha, at the end of the day you just want to have home cooked food to be completely satisfied.

What books influenced my life and how?

An Iron Will by Orison Swett Marden. I used to read many books by Sweet Marden. He is a great inspirational philosopher and has helped me broaden my thoughts.

Who are my favourite writers?

Suryakant Tripathi Nirala and Swett Marden.

You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day?

Bollywood Soul music! There are many exceptional singers in Bollywood that I’d like to listen to like Arijit Singh, Papon, KK beautiful voices and great compositions.

Who are my heroes and heroines in real life?

I am a hero for myself. Ive seen great many deals in my life and I’ve suffered to a great extent. Today when I look at myself, seeing how I built myself from an innocent quite girl to a bold outspoken woman I have saved myself from breaking down and I came out 10 times stronger. I brought up 2 beautiful girls and I feel proud to see them all grown up and doing the best in their life.

Which movie would i recommend to see once in a lifetime?

Titanic , Ahh I’ve watched that movie 11 times in the theatre and every time it comes on TV. I can never get bored of it.

What role plays art in my life and work?

My life is all about my work and my work is all about art. There’s art in everything we do, we just need to think differently.

Who are my greatest fan, sponsor, and partner in crime?

My daughters! Always standing behind me, pushing me to explore new things and supporting me if I’m scared to take a step forward.

Mr John Galliano, Riccardo Tisci, Ralph & Russo.

Which people in my profession would i love to meet in 2017?

That’s a big list, I start with Mr Galliano again, Riccardo Tisci, Yohji Yamamoto, Karl Lagerfeld and the list goes on.

What project, in 2017, am I looking forward to work on?

Well I do not have any projects lined up yet, but I am hoping to design costumes in movies.

What do the words “Passion Never Retires” means to me?

Passion does never retire! When your work is what you love to do, is your passion , it doesn’t let you sleep at night because your mind is constantly trying to come up with something. I feel you need to keep yourself busy even when you get old, maybe not to make money out of but to keep your creativity alive and be happy.
