The Heroine’s Journey of Olivia Grant

What is the best thing that I love about my work? The thing I love the most about my work is that I get to do what I love the most and I can speak to people across the globe in the form of music. I love that I can say things with music that I would never be able to say without music.

What is my idea of perfect happiness? Perfect happiness to me is doing what you love. Giving in to your passions and talents is happiness. And being able to share your life with someone you love is happiness.

What is my greatest fear? My biggest fear would be losing my son and husband. Without them none of this would make sense. They are my courage and they keep me going, they support me and love me.

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? I don’t like my insecurities. This is my flaw, I feel insecure often. (even though I do not let it hold me back)

Which living persons in my profession do I most admire? I absolutely adore the vocal abilities and song writing skills of Josh Ramsay from Marianas Trench. I look up to Made For Broadway, they inspire me so much with the freedom and fun in their music. I also admire Patrick Stumps’ vocal expression and lyrics.

What is my greatest extravagance? Hahahaha! My husband would have loved to answer this one! I spend a lot of money on music equipment and music accessories.

On what occasion would I lie? I would lie to protect someone. That is the only time I would ever lie. I prefer to tell the truth whether it is liked or not.

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? Mmmm, the only thing I don’t like is the prices of the things I need to buy.

When and where was I the happiest in my work? Every time I write a new song, I reach my new happiest moment in my work. It makes me so incredibly happy to put what I feel/experience into the form of music, and being able to share that with other people makes me really happy.

If I could, what would I change about myself? I would be less insecure and more confident.

What is my greatest achievement in work? My greatest achievement would be that I always keep going, I always keep moving forward, I keep working, I keep learning and I keep creating. I reached number 1 in the ReverbNation local charts in 2016 which was also quite an achievement but I would say being able to keep persevering is my greatest achievement, with it I can achieve anything.

Where would I most like to live? I would like to live by the sea. The sea inspires me in ways the city could never.

What is my most treasured possession? My most treasured possession is my son. Thereafter it would definitely be my electric guitar! With it I feel like I can do anything and go anywhere.

What is my most marked characteristic? I stand up for what is true and right. I am that person that everyone knows will not keep quiet. I will say what needs to be said. I will defend and I don’t back down. If I am known for one thing, it would be this. This is an artist’ trait, we do what we do because of who we are – we are the preachers of the people, we say what you are too afraid to say.

What is my most inspirational location, in my city? I would say the music store and our rehearsal studio. These two places feed my perseverance and therefore inspires me.

What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city? At home with my husband, but I do love to have breakfast at Wimpy with my husband and son. There’s nothing like breakfast! It is my favourite meal of the day!

What books influenced my life and how? Tao by Osho. Tao means ‘The Way’ and it taught me to always follow my own way (path). That there is not one specific way for the entire human race, and that we all have to follow our own way, our own path.

Who are my favourite writers? My favourite writers are all songwriters, the bands I listen to. Their lyrics speak from the heart, they write about truths in their lives. Bands like Fall Out Boy, Linkin Park, Sum 41, Made For Broadway, Blink 182, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Nickelback, All American Rejects, Bowling For Soup, Good Charlotte, Avril Lavigne, Papa Roach, Taking Back Sunday, Seether, Shaun Jacobs, Jimmy Eat World, Paramore. There are just an abundance of songwriters who are all my favourite.

You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day? Punk! I would listen to all the music that gets my heart racing. Rude! Magic would be one of those songs! Fall Out Boy Grand Theft Autumn/Where Is Your Boy. And Made For Broadway Royalty.

Who is my hero or heroine in fiction? Ariel from The Little Mermaid. She broke the rules, she followed her heart, she kept going even when the odds were completely against her. That takes guts. Even when everyone told her that she was crazy for wanting the things she wanted she still followed her heart and passion, and she ended up having what she fought for. Even her own father was against her, but she persevered and literally came out on top.

Who are my heroes and heroines in real life? My husband. He has saved me from my self doubt, he showed me that I can follow my dreams and be who I really am. I was a rosebud when he came into my life, and it was finally safe to blossom when he believed in me.

Which movie would I recommend to see once in a lifetime? The Little Mermaid hahahaha. And all the Kung Fu Panda movies! These movies have messages that anyone could understand and learn from. Very inspiring.

What role plays art in my life and work? Art is everything in my work. Art is the way I express myself. Art is the way other artists express themselves. And without art none of us would be able to make a living. Art is the foundation, the pillars and the very centre of my work.

Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime? My greatest fan is my husband, he also sponsors my career and work from time to time. Without him I would not have had the courage to finally do what I love the most.
