The Heroine’s Journey of Chiara Monaci

What is the best thing that I love about my work? I love helping people create a life they love, show them that they have all the skills and resources they need to face any challenge and live a meaningful happy life. Happy, satisfied, fulfilled people make the
world a better place!

What is my idea of perfect happiness? I think happiness stems from gratitude, so we can only experience it when we are grateful for what we have. This means we can actually choose to be happy in any situation. In general I’m happiest when I’m
immersed in nature, away from noise, or when I’m travelling, because I love discovering new places.

What is my greatest fear? Not being free.

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? I don’t deplore anything about myself and “deplore” is a word I don’t like to use. I love who I am, it took me blood, sweat and tears to become the woman I am today and I’m proud of myself.

Which living persons in my profession do i most admire? Seth Godin and Simon Sinek are a constant source of inspiration to me.

What is my greatest extravagance? I talk to animals. I mean full conversations! And, believe it or not, they answer me!

On what occasion would I lie? To save somebody’s life.

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? I love everything about my work, but as a freelance I have to deal the constant challenge of financial insecurity. It’s not easy, but I also think being “hungry” keeps you motivated, makes you creative.

When and where was I the happiest, in my work? I’m very happy when I’m creating content, or working on creative projects in the quiet of my home.

If I could, what would I change about myself? I wouldn’t change anything about myself, I’d rather grow! Anyway, if I could, I’d love to sleep more: I’m an insomniac!

What is my greatest achievement in work? I’d like to believe the best is yet to come, but I always feel happy and proud when my clients reach their goals and want to share their accomplishments with me.

Where would I most like to live? I’ve travelled extensively in my “first life” and fell in love with many places, so it’s hard to choose, but I’d say Australia and South Africa. I love wilderness, big open spaces, rough weather and the breathtaking variety of landscapes these two amazing countries offer.

What is my most treasured possession? I’m not particularly attached to material things, the less I have the better I feel. Everything that matters to me exists in my mind.

What is my most marked characteristic? I have very good memory, to the point that people come to me to recall information. I remember everything, dates, numbers, events, conversations, song lyrics. Sometimes it can almost be a burden. Like Bob Dylan says in “Tight connection to my heart” : “maybe one day I’ll remember to forget”.

What is my most inspirational location, in my city? I live by a beautiful lake, so I like staring at it.

What is my favorite place to eat and drink, in my city? I love “Caffè Vespucci” in Ispra, especially for a sunset aperitive.

What books influenced my life and how? The list is long! To mention a few I’d say “Soul print” by Marc Gafni, “The biology of belief” by Bruce Lipton, all the books by Carol Bowman, Michael Newton, Ian Stevenson, Brian Weiss and Edgar Cayce. All these and many others have guided me through my never ending journey on discovering the
meaning of life.

Who are my favorite writers? I prefer essays or biographies to fiction, but I love Anne Tyler, Barbara Kingsolver and the amazing sufi poet Rumi.

You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day? I find it hard to imagine what I would do in a situation I’ve never been, as I think we can’t entirely being
honest about how we would feel and behave, particularly in such a dramatic circumstance. I love music immensely, and not only one style, so even if this is not my favorite song, I’d listen to “In a lifetime “ by Clannad and Bono. It has a mystical atmosphere, like I imagine my last day here would be if I knew it was the last one.

Who are my heroes and heroines in real life? All the people that manage to live a meaningful happy life despite being born in unprivileged conditions, or despite having been struck by tragedy, war, loss, grief, illness, unfairness and do so with grace,
without becoming bitter and actually inspiring others.

Which movie would i recommend to see once in a lifetime? I don’t like recommending movies, books or music because I think these are very personal choices.
When I get recommendations from others I almost never agree! Anyway, some of my favorite movies are “Lost in translation”, “Babel”, “Crash”, “Extremely loud &
incredibly close”, “Out of Africa”. I’m pretty sure I forgot a few.

What role plays art in my life and work? I love art in all its forms, especially music. In my work, art offers enormous inspiration, since we often use art to navigate life and coaching is definitely a tool to navigate it. I use art to help my clients uncovering their desires and feelings, in particular through the creation of “Personal Mandalas” and they all have fun creating them! Especially the ones that think of themselves as not artistic or not creative. The outcomes are often surprising!

Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime? My husband.

Whom would I like to work with in 2017? I’m already collaborating with some amazing people and my hope is that we will continue to do so even in the future.

Which people in my profession would i love to meet in 2017? I’d love to meet people that are willing to experiment, to dare and to do things because they love to, not
to make money, or gain praise. I’m particularly happy to meet and collaborate with people that have amazing personal stories they wish to share with the world to help others. So, if that’s you, you’re more than welcome to reach out to me!

What project, in 2017, am I looking forward to work on? I’m looking forward to start working on a collection of all the coaching tools I have created so far.

Where can you see me or my work in 2017?
