The Heroine’s Journey of Marie Ducaté

What is the best thing that I love about my work? I love painting, to think Art with painting,  playing with colors, to try to find the gesture in adequation with the shape, the story, the poetry.
What is my idea of perfect happiness? To do  my Art with a good sense of the present, in a beautiful place accompanied by a great love and  faithful friends.
What is my greatest fear? My companion’s death
What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? Not to be able to remember songs and poems, and names of people I meet.
Which living persons in my profession do i most admire? I admire other painters like Theo Kooijman, Jean Laube, Didier Tisseyre, Daniel Dezeuze, Marie-Claire Mitout, Raphaelle Paupert-Borne, Paul Cox, Eric Watier, and many other artists, I like fashionmakers : Comme des garçons, Dries Van Noten, designers as Andrea Branzi, Gio Ponti, cineasts as James Ivory.
What is my greatest extravagance? I ‘m not extravagant, only a little fun!
On what occasion would I lie? To protect someone
What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? To have to sell it! I dream to give it!
When and where was I the happiest, in my work? I’m happy everyday in my work in my  beautiful studio.
If I could, what would I change about myself? I accept what I am, what I live, I would like to change the politics we have in France, the corruption in Europe.
What is my greatest achievement in work? A textile sculpture made of 100 meters translucid and crumpled fabric white painted with birds installed in two circles of 4 and 3 meters diameter, 2,50 meters high, hanging  from the ceiling   and moving with the wind.
Where would I most like to live? Where I live, in Marseille, a city with hills and sea, and with people from everywhere, and many good artists.
What is my most treasured possession? My studio
What is my most marked characteristic? Color and transparency, lightness, joy.
What is my most inspirational location, in my city? The seaside
What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city? The new restaurant of my neighbors : « l’arrosoir »,  57 Boulevard des dames, Marseille
What books influenced my life and how? A la recherche du temps perdu  from Marcel Proust for the visual descriptions, the song of his writing, and Honoré de Balzac  for the psychology in the « Lys dans la Vallée », and  the poems from Pierre de Ronsard, and Lewis Carroll, I imagined an artist’s book, parting from “Alice in wonderland” in watercolors,  without words, only  small remindings,  and alsoI did ceramics from « Alice”, and Midnightsummer from Shakespeare inspired my ceramics too.
Who are my favorite writers? I liked recently Arthur Upfield’s novels, Virginia Woolf, Jane Austen, Alexandra Pizarnik, I read also a lot of books about Art, the catalogs have very good critics, I’m reading for exemple : « black mountain college, Art, Democratie, Utopie” under the direction of Jean-Pierre Cometi and Eric Giraud,  I read also Joelle Zask: “John DeweyExperience et nature », and « la piraterie dans l’âme », from Jean-paul Curnier.
You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day? “Sports and divertissements” by Erik Satie
Who is my hero or heroine in fiction? Emma Thompson in many movies
Who are my heroes and heroines in real life? Greenpeace people, and the communist Jack Ralite who died recently, he did more for Culture  than anybody in our governments.
Which movie would i recommend to see once in a lifetime? Satyajit Ray : «  Jalsaghar »(le salon de Musique)”
What role plays art in my life and work? Art is the main part of my life, I’m living in my studio and paint almost everyday, I travel to see Art and nature.
Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime? My companion,  Jean- Paul Bourel who is also a great contemporary dancer and comedian.
Whom would I like to work with in 2017? I will work with Petr Janecky a fantastic glass blower, with Jara Sara a great glass engraver, and with Benoît Coulpier a  wonderful silk serigraphy technician.
Which people in my profession would i love to meet in 2017? I’d loved to meet Marie-Claude Beaud the Monaco’ s Contemporary Art Museum’s Director, who has always done so interesting exhibitions.
What project, in 2017, am I looking forward to work  on? I’m preparing a big exhibition which will be in « the Pavillon Vendôme », in Aix en Provence, in 2019! And before : a book with watercolors with a new editor « l’oeil qui danse ».
Where can you see me or my work in 2017? In three group exhibitions : In Genova, in the Villa Dutoit till 26th november, in Galland ‘studio in Marseille 25 and 26th November and Artcade, in Marseille from 7th december to 6th january.
What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me? I like passionate people, I am,  and I wish to be always.
Which creative heroines should Peter invite to tell their story? Barbara Satre,  a wonderful gallerist, (galerie Béa-Ba, Marseille), Didier Tisseyre a great painter and glass artist
