The Heroine’s Journey of Gerlanda Milioto

What is the best thing that I love about my work? I am passionate in seeing how well businesses (and companies’ teams) grow through my mentoring and sharing my skills
What is my idea of perfect happiness? A world with no worries..  The sun shining… Being able to relax and take life easy at times…… My children and grandchildren
What is my greatest fear? That I pass away before my time and before my mission in life is accomplished.  Not being able to help my children or having a terminal illness
What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? Being a workaholic – I never stop and should stop to give myself me time more often than I do
Which living persons in my profession do i most admire? James Caan (worth £95m) and Duncan Bannatyne (worth $645m) who are both known for being on Dragon’s Den.  They both had their ups and downs on various occasions but I admire the determination and belief they’ve had in themselves.
What is my greatest extravagance? I don’t think I have one.  I’ve always struggled in spending money except this last year when I invested a huge amount on my business and myself
On what occasion would I lie? I am a terrible liar, cannot lie without being caught out.  I am very easy to read so I try not to get into situations where I need to lie.  However, I’ve told the odd white lie such as being late “because of the trains” etc.
What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? The administration – I’m quite a practical person and although I love the project side, my own business paperwork does pile up weeks at a time.
When and where was I the happiest, in my work? In my very first business Language and Internship Training International.  I started it from the corner of my bedroom, being ill with Fibromyalgia but I managed to turn over £455,000 in my first year, on my own.  It then became an internationally recognised language training and internship placement academy, accredited by The University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate.  Unfortunately, I filed for divorce and all my assets were frozen so I was forced to close it down as I got to the point it was trading insolvently.
If I could, what would I change about myself? I’d become younger and give myself another 30 years of life!!  Seriously though, I would change my too trusting side as that at times, has caused me grief with those who have taken advantage of my good nature.
What is my greatest achievement in work? I’ll always be proud of my first business and the challenges I overcame.  I am also proud of how I continue to have determination in my work
Where would I most like to live? I love living in England and like to live close to my children and family.  So I wouldn’t move anywhere abroad although I would like to have a holiday home maybe in Rio de Janeiro or in Florida.  A place close to the sea and with a forest nearby.  I’d love to have a cabin up high in the mountain somewhere.
What is my most treasured possession? The necklace and pendants my mother left me when she died and my father’s business mind.
What is my most marked characteristic? People tell me it’s how inspiring, genuine and motivational I am.  For me, it’s the giving side of me.  I give as it gives me pleasure to do so, to help others, as long as it’s not taken advantage of.
What is my most inspirational location, in my city? I would have to say Leicester Square as it comes alive at night with all the lights and the amount of tourists that roam around the area.
What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city? I like Covent Garden as there’s quite a variety to choose from.  I like Sarastro’s restaurant in Drury Lane as it has character.  Some evening in the week they also have a band that plays and the whole restaurant is like being in Romeo and Juliet time.  It is very picturesque and serves delicious Turkish and Mediterranean food.
What books influenced my life and how? My biggest book which influenced me is Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway by Susan Jeffers as it taught me that fear is just about the unknown and the not knowing is what scares us the most.  But if we live one day at a time, we should do what we feel without fear.  It showed me how to break new grounds without being afraid in doing so.  The other book which has influenced me is Bob Burg’s Go Givers Sell More as it taught me that if you give just for the love of giving, without expecting back, is the best way for you to find pleasure and things will come your way, which has actually been the case with me.
Who are my favorite writers? VC Andrews is a writer who takes me right inside the story – I loved Flowers in the Attic.  I used to read alot of Daniel Steel’s books before I started in business as once again, I’m taken right into the story, as though I’m a part of it.  And I do like to read autobiographies of people who have made it in the world.
You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day? I think Live and Let Die would be a good one and Top of the World by The Carpenters as I love the lyrics and also loved Karen Carpenter’s voice.
Who is my hero or heroine in fiction? Jane Eyre has to be the heroine for me and Paul Edgcombe of The Green Mile the fictional hero
Who are my heroes and heroines in real life? My father was my hero and heroines I think it has to be Cher or Tina Turner as they went through hell and back and now have their own lives.  I also admire Oprah – she’s so down to earth and inspiring.
Which movie would i recommend to see once in a lifetime? I have always loved Armageddon but I could watch Titanic many times as though it was the first time.
What role plays art in my life and work? I have been known to have a creative mind but can’t say I’m artistic in other ways.  I’m not very good at designing unfortunately although I am able to match colours in my dress.
Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime? I have lots of friends, sometimes too many to have enough time to spend with them.  However, there is one friend, Lorraine Tighe, who would always be there for me and we have been through alot together.  With Lorraine, I can share things about business as well as personal and she would understand instantly.  She looks out for me as I do for her.
Whom would I like to work with in 2018? I’d love to get a contract with a large international events company or with one of the top business persons around.  I’d love to work with James Caan for example
Which people in my profession would i love to meet in 2018? People are always talking about Tony Robbins and I must say that I’m curious about what he’s really like in real life.  I would love to meet Oprah and have a conversation with her.  She is so inspiring.
What project, in 2018, am I looking forward to work on? In 2018 I shall be speaking at several international events around the world and am therefore looking forward to working with companies who wish to do business in the UK and may need help with Business English which is one of the services I offer, as well as pairing companies up here in the UK with international trades and vice versa.
Where can you see me or my work in 2018? I have a few events I shall be speaking at here in the UK in February, March and in October and shall be speaking in Barbados, Toronto, Melbourne, Bahamas and possibly in a few more countries.  Check out my All Upcoming Events on my website:
What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me? As long as we are breathing, I shall have passion in me – I’m Sicilian so we are know to be passionate in everything we do and say.  So for me, passion will never retire

Become a Friend of The Heroine’s Journey

We’re sometimes not too sure how we get into good friendships. It seems to happen rather mysteriously: we talk of somewhat randomly ‘clicking’ with people. Trying to plan for it sounds like cheating. But in a busy world, the desire to socialise authentically, with interesting, like-minded people, deserves to be addressed directly.

That’s why we created The Heroine’s Journey Friends scheme. Membership gives you the right to invite creative professionals to publish their story for free on The Heroine’sJourney online. Each story made possible by you is anchored around the big idea that when we our quest let’s us travel from a person who interests us to another person who interest them and exchange stories we learn more about ourselves, meet people who can make a difference for you and have more impact in the world with telling our story.  Every month, in your own city or somewhere in the world you can invite creative professionals you like to tell their story for the Heroine’s Journey website.

If you have passion for your work, you will find kindred spirits in this way of travelling.  The stories you will see of creative professionals you have invited for The Heroine’s Journey are guaranteed to be stimulating and reassuring – as well as prompts to genuine connection and insight. Every creative professional you bring forward to have their story free published on The Heroine’s Journey online, you will be offering a great experience to everyone you meet.
