The Heroine’s Journey of Cora Crimson

What is the best thing that I love about my work? What I love most about doing this kind of work is the release I get once a painting is complete. I kind of hate the process when I’m in the middle of working because it can be tedious and pretty boring sometimes, but once a painting is complete, it’s very satisfying to be able to let go of everything it took to make the piece.

What is my idea of perfect happiness? Being in the middle of something meditative and productive, or being out on a long run on a warm sunny day.

What is my greatest fear? Not being in control, or having to accept a horrible outcome due to helplessness or random chance.

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? Anxiety and OCD, obsessing over things to a fault.

Which living persons in my profession do I most admire? I admire anyone who has worked hard to become skilled, or who is willing to share their good fortune and success to help others improve their own skills.

What is my greatest extravagance? Getting my hair done.

On what occasion would I lie? I don’t like to lie, but I’d be ok with it if it was to help save someone or to avoid talking to someone creepy.

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? That I could spend an infinite amount of time on something and always be finding errors, or things I could redo or touch up. It’s difficult to know when to stop, and sometimes it’s easy to feel inadequate or down about what I’m doing.

When and where was I the happiest, in my work? I feel like that hasn’t quite happened yet, and I still need to work on being happy with my work.

If I could, what would I change about myself? I’d stop worrying about EVERYTHING.

What is my greatest achievement in work? Not letting the bad experiences kill my optimism, and not letting the good experiences turn me into a worse person.

Where would I most like to live? Right now I really like where I live, in Hawaii. If I had to pick another place, I’d probably choose Ireland or New Zealand.

What is my most treasured possession? Probably my phone.

What is my most marked characteristic? I’m super quiet. Did I also mention I worry about everything?

What is my most inspirational location, in my city? I haven’t gotten a chance to explore a lot of Honolulu yet, but I’d say the beach and any area with natural surroundings is inspirational. The military sites and their history is also interesting.

What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city? My living room.

What books influenced my life and how? Everything I’ve read by Stephen King has been interesting to me, because he is great at showcasing very dark themes in a way that is human. I find his work very relatable in that the realities he crafts are never perfect, and bad stuff happens to good people all the time. Recent true crime reads like “People Who Eat Darkness”, “The Cases that Haunt Us”, and “The Gift of Fear”, have definitely helped reinforce my cautious and cynical nature.

Who are my favorite writers? I’m a big fan of Stephen King.

You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day? Probably a bunch of rock music, mostly from the 60s.

What role plays art in my life and work? Art is an emotional and creative outlet for me. It’s one way I can connect with other people without having to have an awkward anxious conversation.

Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime? Probably my husband.

Whom would I like to work with in 2018? I’m looking forward to continuing to work with my collective,” Strange Dreams Surreal Artists Collective.” Each artist brings their unique style and talent to the table, and I’m very proud to be a part of this group!

Which people in my profession would i love to meet in 2018? Anyone I have worked with before but haven’t met in real life!
