Which living persons in my profession do i most admire?
My business partner, the owner of the tour operator I manage in Oman. He is always calm, pacific, undisturbed. He faces any difficulty in a quiet manner and always asks me: “Are you happy?”. The job doesn’t come first for him, happiness does.
What is my greatest extravagance?
I keep on buying thousand of nail polish but I always wear the same two.

Manage money. I hate money.
When and where was I the happiest, in my work?
It was in 2010 and I was volunteering for a year in a girls training school in Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia. I remember one evening I laid down in the grass, closed my eyes and thought that I was exactly where I wanted to be, doing what I’ve always dreamt to do. I have never been so happy afterwards.
If I could, what would I change about myself?
My being oversensitive.
What is my greatest achievement in work?
Seeing people happy.
Where would I most like to live?
Somewhere in South-East Asia.

I am stubborn. When I want to do something I’ll do anything for it if my heart tells me to do so.
What is my most inspirational location, in my city?
I live in Salalah, a lovely city in south Oman. The Empty Quarter desert, at a few hours from Salalah, is surely the most inspiring place I know. Dunes, wind and silence are the best tools ever for stress relief.
What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city?
Just grab a milk tea – or a karak chai prepared with strong tea, evaporated milk and cardamom – at any local Tea Shop, bring some dates and sit at sunset in front of the sea at Al Dahariz beach. There you will find many locals coming to enjoy the gentle breeze and a chat.
What books influenced my life and how?
“Living, Loving and Learning” by Leo Buscaglia.
It inspired me to leave my job and pursue my dreams, and to understand that the secret of happiness is loving and helping others.

“Om Mani Padme Hum” (the original extended version) from a Tibetan chant, a prayer-song that invokes the powerful and benevolent attention of the Buddha of Compassion. We all need compassion on our last day.
Who is my hero or heroine in fiction?
Isadora Wing, the protagonist of “Fear of Flying” by Erica Jong. A compulsive daydreamer, a seeker of saviors and psychiatrists, the author of a book of erotic poems, Isadora forces herself to keep traveling, to risk her marriage and her life in pursuit of her own brand of liberation.
Who are my heroes and heroines in real life?
My mother, who’s the strongest woman I have ever met so far. She faces life and any kind of difficulty and pain with optimism and a great sense of humour.
My father, who – unwittingly – inspired me to follow my passions as he did.
And Kuki Gallman, the author of the memoir “I Dreamed of Africa”, who, when she lost her husband and her son, embraced the biggest challenge of her life: to preserve a wild oasis of biodiversity in Kenya, where she lived. She succeeded and created the Ol Ari Nyiro – Laikipia Nature Conservancy.

What role plays art in my life and work?
I’ve always wanted to be a theatre actress. I also studied drama and I like being on stage. I use my drama skills in everything I do: teaching, volunteering with kids, tour guiding, blogging. Life has no meaning without art.

My girlfriends, who are always there for me to give me love and support despite the distance.

My talk will be about how to step outside your comfort zone and take risks to follow your dream.

My motto is “Follow your passion, not your pension”. You should follow your passion, talents and gifts anytime. Life is short. Anything is possible if you want it bad enough. Even if you’re over fifty.
