What is the best thing that I love about my work?

I’m a Lighting Artist, and I have experiences both in animation and videogames. The most amazing thing of this field is that is constantly evolving, there is always something new to learn and experiment, it’s impossible to get bored, there are no limits to inventiveness! In specific what I love as Lighting Artist, is the power to evoke specific feelings in who watch or play “just” through the lights, and this also give me the chance to share something of myself in every project.

What is my idea of perfect happiness?

I would like to break the distances, and always have the chance to see who I love.

What is my greatest fear?

To die before I see as much as possible of the world.

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself?

I always want to gain the max in everything I do, I don’t like to fail, so I’m often severe with myself. This aspect of me surely helped me a lot to be who I am, but I want to learn to be more carefree.

Which living persons in my profession do I most admire?

I was been lucky enough to meet many extraordinary artists who taught me a lot in my profession, and I admire all of them.

What is my greatest extravagance?

I am an eclectic person, I love to expand my knowledge in many fields. For example, I am currently studying herbal medicine, aromatherapy and organic skin care through online courses, and I have already obtained several certifications on Udemy and Centre of Excellence. I am also a video games lover, and few years ago I organized tournaments on Xbox for Major League Gaming Italy. Then I practiced many different sports: kickboxing, latin dance, archery, horse riding … I just can’t stop my curiosity!

On what occasion would I lie?

Never, I’m totally not able to do it, and I prefer to be hated rather than don’t say the truth because is too bad to hear it.

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work?

I hate when in a workplace there is an insane competition. Teamwork in my job is essential, so for me is totally no sense a work context like that. And I don’t like when because of favoritism, a person obtains more responsabilities even if he/she, doesn’t deserve them.

When and where was I the happiest, in my work?

When after just few weeks of hard work my leader asked me to teach the new colleagues about the workflow. To get his trust and respect in a really few time was been an immense satisfaction for me.

If I could, what would I change about myself?

I’m a little bit aggressive, is something I probably developed as self-defense through the years, but sometimes is too sharp, so I’m learning to smooth this aspect of myself.

What is my greatest achievement in work?

I’m really proud to have worked to an amazing animation series for YouTube Original in my first experience out of Italy! If you want, you can see the first free episode here:

Where would I most like to live?

I don’t know where exactly, but I surely want to live in a sunny place close to the sea.

What is my most treasured possession?

There is nothing material I think is so important to me, but my collection of pure essential oils is something I’m really happy to have, because thanks to them I can create several natural products for my family.

What is my most inspirational location, in my city?

Is “Via dei Tribunali” in Naples, in the middle of historical part of the city, where you can really hear her heart beats. But honestly every place in Naples is a great inspiration for me. It’s a perfect mix of colors, smells, voices, lights and shadows, happiness and sadness, life and death, all in one. Her contradditions are what make Naples’s soul so unique and beautiful. As you know: “See Naples and die”.

What is my favourite place to eat and drink, in my city?

Probably the “Pescheria Azzurra” in “Via Pignasecca”. It’s a small and really characteristic place, in the middle of the street. They always have fresh fish and they are amazingly able to reproduce the neapolitan traditional cookery with their dishes.

What books influenced my life and how?

I read mainly fantasy and adventure books, they give me a lot of inspiration for my work and they open and stimulate my mind. Some of them that I can mention are:

the “Eragon” saga of Christopher Paolini, “Beyond the Deepwoods” saga of Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell, “The end of Mr. Y” of Scarlett Thomas.

I also love mangas, for example “Angel Sanctuary” of Kaori Yuki and “Death Note” of Tsugumi Ōba and Takeshi Obata are two masterpiece for me.

For last, even if is off topic, I want mention a videogame: “Final Fantasy VIII”, produced by Squaresoft, that is the main reason of why I decided to work in this field.

Who are my favorite writers?

In addition to the writers I mentioned in the previous question, I can think also of: Ken Follett, Wilbur Smith, Clive Cussler, Sherry Argov, Karen Traviss, Sophie Kinsella, and the cartoonist Milo Manara.

You only die once. What music would I listen on my last day?

Ryuichi Sakamoto – Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence.

Who is my hero or heroine in fiction?

Probably Belle from “The Beauty and the Beast”. She has been discriminated for being unconventional but she have had the strength to be always herself, to question herself without stopping to appareance, and to radically change her life.

Who are my heroes and heroines in real life?

My heroes in real life are my parents, they are both hard workers, they teached to me and my sister all the most important values. To be respectful, polite, generous, kind, exactly like they are, and the importance to study and get our independence and our spot in the world. I know that whatever can happen in my life, they will always be here to protect me.

Which movie would I recommend to see once in a lifetime?

“The Goonies” of Steven Spielberg, it’s definitely a piece of my childhood, that desire of adventures is something that influenced my whole life.

What role plays art in my life and work?

One of the biggest, of course. I studied in Academy of Fine Arts of Naples and since I was a child I liked to draw everywhere, all the time.

Traditional art, digital art and every kind of art inspire every moments of my life. Without art I wouldn’t be the person I am.

Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime?

I have three: my sister, my boyfriend and my dog. No one else know me better than them and they are my partners in different kind of crimes!

Whom would I like to work with in 2019?

There is no one in particular, I would like to meet whoever is happy to share his/her knowledge with me and teach me new things!

Which people in my profession would I love to meet in 2019?

I’m pretty sure that I will continue to meet incredible artists with which I can share our respective passion and knowledge of this amazing work.

What project, in 2019, am I looking forward to work on?

An animation series for Netflix.

What do the words “Passion never retires” mean to me?

Passion is something that is inside us, like an organ really similar to the heart, it move us and it give us the energy necessary to live and to be happy, and the strength to get up when things go bad. Without it we would be lost.

Laia Guerrero Bosch, she is an amazing person and a really valuable artist, I’m so happy to had the chance to met her in my life!
