The Heroine’s Journey of Delia Biele

What is the best thing that I love about my work? I am a woman happy to finally be able to dedicate myself to Art after a long career in the State Police, my real job. I love studying, attending and practicing Art with continuous contaminations between photography, mosaic, drawing. I am a photographic portrait painter and I develop my photographic projects following precise projects. But at the same time I’ve been following my selfportraits for years now, to tell me.

What is my idea of happiness? The freedom to travel that is lacking in this time of pandemic expresses my idea of happiness well. Art must be pursued everywhere and Italy is full of it. Being able to visit an art exhibition makes me happier than anything else.

What is my greatest fear? The pandemic has changed our perception of fear but more generally in a social world where communication is out of control, I am afraid of a certain verbal violence that accompanies the summary judgments that I read about anyone’s life and that are able to hurt in the same way as physical violence.

What is the trait that I most deplore in myself? I am an impulsive person who in the past had to correct the shot but as I get older I became wiser and more aware, I take position on the important issues only after sleeping on it.

Which living persons in my profession do i most admire? The world of photography is the one I know the most, I have chosen some masters who are guiding me in my training and I want to remember most of all Giovanni Gastel, international photographer, brilliant all-round artist who introduced me to poetry in combination with photography. Just a few days ago Giovanni was a victim of Covid and the emptiness he leaves in the world is unbridgeable.

What is my greatest extravagance? Well, I am of the sign of Aries and the extravagance is in my stars, I love to feel free and I lived in different places until I stopped in the Marche in the city of Senigallia, with its velvet beach and the sea subject of many of my photographic works. But my transfers are not over yet….. I hope.

On what occasion would I lie? I’m not prone to lying and I’m turning liars away with determination. A lie called must be remembered otherwise bad figures are made. But Art feeds on visions and interpretations, on things just imagined, in photography I love to superimpose more images when I want to express a concept at a glance. Giovanni Gastel called my images “machines for thinking”

What is the thing that I dislike the most in my work? Certainly the exasperated competition of others that in the past has conditioned me in some choices but now that I have a greater awareness I choose the languages with which I want to communicate in photography with greater serenity

When and where was I the happiest, in my work? I love to exhibit my works and an exhibition is always the most comfortable place I feel happier. The last was “Acque amate”, a photography and poetry project that I developed with my colleague and Giulia Caminada and the photographer Giovanni Gastel that I was able to set up in the historic Baviera building in Senigallia, Ancona, Italy

If I could, what would I change about myself? I’m what I want but if I could have done art studies at the time but it would have been another life and now maybe I’d be somewhere else

What is my greatest achievement in work?I have to acknowledge that my career in the State Police has given me more than one success. Now that I express myself only with artistic languages certainly the last experience of the Project “Acque amate” with Giulia Caminada e Giovanni Gastel, (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BECC7vCAzAY) has gratified me a lot and many other satisfactions are coming, I am aware the world of art reserves more sorrows than satisfactions, but this certainty makes me free to carry out my projects.

Where would I most like to live? The place is not important but I certainly choose the proximity to the sea or the lake as an essential element, which is why I reside in Senigallia but I would also like to live a period outside Italy such as Spain, Morocco, Japan, to nourish my creativity.

What is my most treasured possession? Photography is the means of expression that I love the most but which I continually contaminate with poetry, mosaic, drawing. I love to interpret my photos by transforming them into mosaics and therefore accepting to lose my certain and well-defined lines for new visions of the image that inspired me

What is my most marked characteristic? I am a hard worker, very serious and focused. When I do a photographic portrait I don’t allow distractions. I like to work in silence while when I am in the exhibition space during my exhibitions I love to receive the public and answer the questions of the guests. Telling them what inspired and guided me and I know this is particularly welcome.

What is my most inspirational location, in my city? In Senigallia there are medieval historical sites such as the Rocca Roveresca and the Palazzetto Baviera, the Foro Annonario but also the Rotonda sul mare made famous by the homonymous Italian song by Fred Bongusto.

What is my favorite place to eat and drink, in my city? Senigallia as a tourist resort has infinite places where you can appreciate good Italian cuisine and its wines. The restaurant of the internationally known 3-star Chef Mauro Uliassi is also located here. But for the youngest there are also many places on the sea for aperitifs and street food.

What books influenced my life and how? Giovanni Gastel’s photographic book “Masks and Spectra” contains epochal images that inspire me continuously for my self-portraits, Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy instead inspired me the photographic work that I have just finished and which will go on show as soon as possible. But the book of photography and poetry “ACQUE AMATE” composed by me Delia Biele and Giulia Caminada is a fixed point from which to start again.

You Only Die Once. What music would I listen on my last day? Vivaldi, “Four season”.

Who is my hero or heroine in fiction? I prefer to indicate a true heroine: Frida Khalo, an icon of non-conformism.

Who are my heroes and heroines in real life? At this historic moment, it is all doctors, pharmacists and paramedics who are fighting on the front line against the pandemic.

Which movie would I recommend to see once in a lifetime? I am an incurable romantic and I mean Romeo and Juliet directed by Franco Zeffirelli

What role play stories in my life and work? When I photograph I have clear ideas about the story I want to tell, at least the starting point, then as the work is enriched with new images, the story writes itself. I use the technique of overlapping the photographed images, sometimes during the shooting phase, sometimes in post-production to create multiple reading planes as in a script and not for mere technicality

What do the words ‘You are the storyteller of your own life’ to me? In fact, every time I express myself with my visions, be they of photography, poetry or mosaic, I am telling my life, my feelings are always underlying, the education I have received, the choices I have made are in front of yours. eyes, but I always leave space to the viewer for their own personal vision.

Who is my greatest fan, sponsor, partner in crime? I have dear friends who believe in me and in my work and support me continuously, some are sponsors for example for “Acque amate” my friend Orietta Olivetti Cicconi Massi, manager of “Family Med” and the very good photographer Marinella Mancinelli, with her company “Mancinelli Cicli”, others have always made me models for my projects with great complicity.

Which people or companies would I like to work with in 2021? I work very well with my fellow photographers but also with other artists such as mosaicists Cristina Cucchi and Marie Luise Mandolini, photographer Marinella Mancinelli, blogger Federica Balli, photographer Alita Alita, actress Francesca Berardi,

Which people in my profession who can make a real difference in my creative career would i love to meet in 2021? If and when the current health emergency allows it I definitely want to study with one of my masters the great fashion photographer Toni Thorimbert with whom I have already faced the “foundation” course. I would also like to meet the master of photography Maurizio Galimberti with whom to deepen instant photography with his very personal style. The real masters are concentrated for the most part in Milan where I hope to be able to return as soon as possible

What project, in 2021, am I looking forward to work on? As I mentioned, I finished a tribute to Dante Alighieri and his Divine Comedy, the images were inspired in part by my teenage readings of the work and in part by the many hours of TV during the lockdown period of 2020, but I do not reveal nothing else because it is a work that I care very much about and I also consider it a tribute to my photography master Giovanni Gastel who died prematurely on March 13th. I am writing some accompanying texts but it is above all a photographic work. At the same time you continue to implement my collection of self-portraits by developing two basic themes that guide viewers in understanding my inner and outer world.

Where can you see me or my work in 2021? I am social and too busy to manage a site so all the updates on my account, on my works and collaborations, the articles about me can be found on my facebook and instagram profiles.

What do the words “Passion Never Retires” mean to me? I would say that it is my battle cry and that of the masters I have chosen and who have made me grow, so I have a duty not to disappoint them.

Which creative heroines should Peter invite to tell their story? The mosaicists Cristina Cucchi and Marie Luise Mandolini, photographer Marinella Mancinelli, blogger Federica Balli, photographer Alita Alita, actress Francesca Berardi,
